I resigned from English Heritage on May Day 1984 & at 51 I became a full-time wood-engraver and a kept man. I cannot drive a car. My Latin is my brother-in-law's. I work to tea & Wagner and print on a Columbian Press made in 1822, the year of Beethoven's opus 111.

I do not believe in the life to come but know that opening the south door of a village church & stepping down into the cool, whitewashed  uninhabited interior is one of the sweetest things in life, a sensation unchanged since schooldays; the experience of the life that was.

Peter had hoped to hold a party for the press in 2022. The opus 111 sonata was Peter's favourite and one of the last things he listened to.
