A tribute from Ian Stephens

Peter Forster
A major loss to wood engraving and illustration.
Although he had not shown with the SWE for several years Peter's work was always worth searching out. He could be humorous, even whimsical or bitingly satirical but always brought a refreshing edge to exhibitions whether in black and white or, superbly cut and printed, colour.
In my small collection of his work I have a print of his stunning colour print of George Eliot, an exemplary piece of design, cutting and printing. Magnificent. On another level I wonder who else would think of depicting King Richard the Lion Heart being rescued by Blondel/Blondin in a wheelbarrow on a tightrope!
Peter- a true original and greatly missed.
